Phoebe Palmer
First known for her controversial, satirical oil paintings, Phoebe Palmer followed with an on-going series of intensely colored figurative pastels. Her recent work has expanded splendidly into three dimensions.
On an architectural scale, Phoebe is building densely textured, sculptural ferro-cement walls around her Ragged Point studio. From this inspirational location she works in mosaics and metal sculpture as well as her “normal” mediums.
Phoebe has taken the characters formerly inhabiting her paintings and pastels and cast them in the round as she breaks into the classical realm of ceramic sculpture. These wonderfully fleshy little figures inspire a sense of recognition in the viewer. As in her paintings, one knows these small folks from somewhere.
